Beanie Baby Sweater
Pattern by Martha Haynes
I use sport weight yarn and size 7 needles. Gauge isn't crucial; beanies
aren't too fussy.
Cast on 30 stitches, divide among three needles and join, K1P1 rib for 5
rounds.
Divide stitches on four needles 10, 5, 10, 5. Increase one stitch in the
first and last stitch on each needle for one round, followed by a plain
knit round. Repeat five times until you have 20, 15, 20, 15 stitches on
four needles. Slip the 15 stitches on two lengths of contrasting color
waste thread. Knit the remaining 40 stitches on four needles (10, 10, 10,
10) three rounds, then rib 3 rounds, then bind off. Pick up each of the 15
stitches (sleeves) on three needles (5, 5, 5), knit 2 rounds, rib 2 rounds,
bind off.
There you have it, plus you now know how to knit a sweater in the round
from the top down. I use duplicate stitch to decorate, but you could easily
add stripes.
Don't worry about strings hanging down under the arms. You use these to
tighten up any holes and loose stitches (heaven forbid!).
