CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS

If you are a beginner at crochet, you need to know a few crochet terms, and crochet abbreviations. Crochet patterns are written using abbreviations. Most magazines or books will have a key explaining these crochet abbreviations, but the list below will be helpful to get you started.

beg = begin
ch(s) = chain stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
tr = treble crochet
dtr = double treble crochet
tr tr = triple treble crochet
FPdc = front post double crochet
BPdc = back post double crochet
reverse sc = reverse single crochet
lp st = loop stitch
BLO or BL = Back Loop Only - Back Loop
FLO or FL = Front Loop Only - Front Loop
Rev = Reverse
lp(s) = loop(s)
inc = increase
sk = skip
dec = decrease
rnd(s) = round(s)
st(s) = stitch(es)
sp(s) = space(s)
beg = beginning
rep = repeat
tog = together
rs = right side
ws = wrong side
yo = yarn over
CC = contrasting colour
MC = main colour
* = repeat instructions following or between asterisk as indicated
