SWEET HOODED CROCHET PONCHO

This pattern can be completed with the following Bernat yarn:

 

Sweet Hooded Crochet Poncho - Sized to fit 6 - 24 months (chest measurement 17 - 21-1/2 inches). Bernat Baby Coordinates Sweet Stripes can be substituted to create this great poncho.

Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. 1 button.

GAUGE: 15 hdc and 10 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS: The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Note: Turning ch 2 does not count as first st in row.

FRONT: Ch 77 (89-98-104).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each ch across. Ch 2. Turn. 75 (87-96-102) hdc.
1st row: 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Ch 2. Turn.
2nd row: 1 hdc in first hdc. *Ch 1. Miss next 2 hdc. 1 dc in next hdc. 1 dc in 2nd missed hdc – Cross made. Rep from * to last 2 hdc. Ch 1. Miss next hdc. 1 hdc in last hdc. Ch 3. Turn.
3rd row: 1 dc in each st or ch-1 sp to end of row. Ch 2. Turn.
4th row: 1 hdc in first dc. *Cross over next 3 dc. Rep from * to last 2 dc. Ch 1. Miss next dc. 1 hdc in last dc. Ch 3. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 10 (10½-11-12) ins [24.5 (26.5-28-30.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Divide for front opening:
Next row:
Pat across 37 (43-48-51) sts for Left Side, ending with 1 hdc in last st. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. Work even in pat until work from beg measures 11 (12-13-14) ins [28 (30.5-33-35.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
1st row:
Pat to last 3 (3-4-4) sts.Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 34 (40-44-47) sts.
2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). (Yoh and draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw through two loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - dc2tog made. Pat to end of row. Ch 2. Turn.
3rd row: Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.
Rep 2nd row once more. 31 (37-41-44) sts. Work 2 rows even in pat. Fasten off. With RS of work facing, join yarn with sl st to next st and work Left Side to correspond to Right Side reversing all shapings.

BACK:
Joining row:
(WS). Pat across first 31 (37-41-44) sts. Ch 13 (13-14-14). Pat across 31 (37-41-44) sts for Left Front. 75 (87-96-102) sts. Cont even in pat, until work from joining row measures 2 rows less than Front, ending with WS.
Next row: 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Fasten off.

HOOD: Ch 77 (77-79-81).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each ch across. Ch 2. Turn. 75 (75-77-79) sts.
Next 3 rows: 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Ch 2. Turn.
Next row: Hdc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog over last 2 sts. Ch 2. Turn.
Next row: 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Ch 2. Turn. Rep last 2 rows to 59 (59-61-63) sts. Cont even until work from beg measures 6½ (7-7½- 8) ins [16.5 (18-19-20.5) cm], ending with RS facing and omitting turning ch at end of last row.

Shape back seam:
Next 6 rows:
Sl st in each of first 3 sts. 1 hdc in each st to last 3 sts. Turn. Leave rem 23 (23-25-27) sts unworked. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Fold Hood in half along back seam edge and sew center back seam. Pin shaped edge of Hood to neck opening, beg at edges of front opening and matching back seam of Hood to center back neck edge. Sew Hood in position.

Button loop: Ch 18. 1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end of ch. Fasten off. Fold loop in half and sew in position. Sew button to correspond to loop.
