Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles for Tree and Reindeer. Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook for Snowman and Gingerbread Man or size needed to obtain gauge. Small buttons and beads for Tree. 4 buttons for Snowman. 1 brown chenille stem and 3 buttons for Reindeer. buttons for Gingerbread Man. GAUGE Tree and Reindeer: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st. Snowman and Gingerbread Man: 16 sc and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm]. ABBREVIATIONS http://www.bernat.com/glossary.php INSTRUCTIONS  TREE to knit Boughs (make 3). With A, cast on 26 sts. 1st row: (RS). K13. Place marker on needle. Knit to end of row. *2nd row: Purl. 3rd row: Knit to 2 sts before marker. K2tog. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to end of row. Rep last 2 rows to 8 sts.* Next row: (WS). Purl. Next row: K4. K1) 6 times. 18 sts. 5th row: (Inc 1 st in next st. K2) 6 times. 24 sts. 7th row: (Inc 1 st in next st. K3) 6 times. 30 sts. 8th row: Purl.** Cont in this manner, inc 6 sts evenly across next and every following alt row to 60 sts. Work 7 rows even in stocking st. Next row: (RS). (K8. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts and draw up tightly. Fasten securely. Sew bottom seam, stuffing body as you work. Weave end through 1st row and draw up tightly to close body. Fasten securely. Head: With B, cast on 6 sts. Work from ** to ** as given for Body. 30 sts. Work 5 rows even. Next row: (RS). (K3. K2tog) 6 times. 24 sts. Next row: Purl. Next row: (K2. K2tog) 6 times. 18 sts. Next row: Purl. Next row: (K1. K2tog) 6 times. 12 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts and draw up tightly. Fasten securely. Sew bottom seam, stuffing head as you work. Weave end through 1st row and draw up tightly to close head. Fasten securely. Sew head to Body as shown in picture. Legs: (make 4). Cut 8 strands of B 14 ins [35.5 cm] long. With all strands tog, hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot 4 ins [10 cm] from fold. The strands will now twist themselves tog. Trim excess yarn close to knot. FINISHING: Sew legs to Body. Cut chenille stem in half. Push both halves through top of head and bend to form antlers as shown in picture. Glue buttons to face for eyes and nose. FINISHING With D, embroider mouth. Glue or sew buttons to body and head as shown in picture. Glue Hat in position. Tie scarf around neck.  GINGERBREAD MAN to crochet Front and Back (make alike). First Leg: With F, ch 6. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 5 sc. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn. Rep last row 4 times more. Fasten off. Second Leg: Work as given for First Leg. Do not fasten off at end of last row. Next row: (RS). (Joining row). Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc of Second Leg. Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc of First Leg. Turn. 11 sc. Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn. Rep last row 10 times more. Fasten off. Head: 1st row: With RS of work facing, miss first 3 sc. Join yarn with sl st in next sc. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 5 sc. 2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 2 sc in last sc. Right Arm: With RS of work facing, join yarn with sl st at right shoulder. Ch 1. Work 5 sc evenly between shoulder and marker. Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn. 5 sc. Rep last row 3 times more. Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sc. 1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. Fasten off. Left Arm: Joining yarn at marker, work as given for Right Arm. FINISHING With E, embroider mouth. Glue or sew buttons as shown in picture. With WS of Front and Back tog, join F with sl st under Right Arm. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, work in sc evenly around outer edge of Gingerbread Man, stuffing lightly as you work. Join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Attach hanging loop to top of head. |
